A Guide To Successful Homeschooling

One of the main problems that parents encounter when putting their child to home school is starting it altogether. This is especially true with parents who have no previous experience in handling children or in teaching lessons. It is up to the parents to sift through the positives and the negatives of homeschooling.

Because of the time that it will consume, most parents decide to quit their jobs and concentrate more on teaching their child. Parents can also ensure that the values that their kids learn are the values that they want to teach and not the ones that they learn from their environment. However, despite these concerns, the rate at which parents are choosing to home school continues to rise.

Many parents who are homeschooling their kids are pleasantly surprised that they do not need much money in order to be effective and successful home schoolers. Many parents who approach me when they are in this situation feel they are in crisis and that there are many obstacles to their ensuring a suitable education for their child.

Learning

Remember, aside from the teachings, the lessons, and the learning, this will indeed be quite a different environment for your child as opposed the the bells, the crowded halls, and all the noise and distractions they have become accustom to in their previous learning environment. Keep in mind that these activities can be tied into current studies and become part of the learning environment. Rules and routines specific to the classroom need to be put in place so that it is clear for both the student and teacher what is acceptable during learning time.

Perhaps the biggest advantage to homeschooling your children is that you know exactly what they are learning and have complete control over when and how they learn it. The reasons for choosing homeschooling as a substitute can be many including having better control over the content of their children’s education, being able to better match the speed and pace of learning to each child’s ability, better promotion of the parent-child bond as their children grow older, and concerns over their children’s safety in the public school system.

Curriculum

Choosing a home school curriculum can be a daunting task. However, you can also establish your own specific curriculum, which will allow you to measure your kids’ development.

After that, you need to set up the curriculum in “terms/periods”, which you can “copy” from public schools. For one thing, if you’re just beginning with home schooling (and if you don’t have a teaching background), it is recommended that you subscribe to an independent study program or buy a boxed curriculum suited to your child’s skill level. When that certain “longest” curriculum will necessitate less than the lowest number of teaching days, then it won’t be a reason in outlining your home school school year.

Some programs, such as Calvert sell mainly complete curriculum packages. 75 to $16 and teacher curriculum guides at about $30. By combining library books on the same historical periods and topics with watching these shows, I was able to complete the curriculum for my son’s sixth and seventh grade history courses at a cost of zero dollars.

Social

Since the child is studying alone at home, it does not give him/her the opportunity to pick up social skills. A common misconception is that with homeschooling, the child(ren) is isolated and starved for social contacts with peers - this is untrue. Well if it is not done correctly it surely could be a problem in that regard, social interaction is part of understanding the reality of things.

When it comes to home schooling the social skills is a topic that is of primary importance. Many people think that in home schooling the children is deprived of any social interactions or interaction with other children leading to less growth and development. - Children in the high school level should be taught the following: English, which includes speech, language, literature and composition, science which will include chemistry and biology; social studies, geography, economics, history of the U.

At school, kids are surrounded by healthy competition plus educational and social interaction with their peers, which many by the way, will argue is essential for growth.
